What??

I was listening to talk radio this morning and a lady called in and she was telling about the fact that she took some recyclables to the Warner Park recycling center. She travels a lot for business and now Chattanooga only picks up recycling once a month. The center was closed, so she decided to leave her recyclables on the curb right by the gate completely sorted and ready to be put in. Okay. So, there is usually a sign stating NOT to do this. However, since she works out of town so often the center hours didn't jive for her. She's trying to do her part, right? Well, she said the next morning a "refuse control officer" came to her house and cited her for illegal dumping. !!! She had to go to court and was fined $140. This is totally insane. So, how did they find her? Unfortunately, her name and address was on one of her boxes and they tracked her down this way. Now, would an unscrupulous person truly illegally dumping do this? I think not. She was trying to do the "right" thing and she gets FINED $140, not WARNED. I couldn't believe this. Plus, the fact that there is a job called "refuse control officer?" Our city has trouble providing schools with SROs, but we have our refuse control officers aplenty. Food for thought...

On the same note of crazy, unnecessary things....
I went to Panera Bread today and decided to dine in. The first thing I noticed while ordering was this newly built, gigantic WALL right smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. ?? What's up with that? The cashier I asked about the wall agreed it seemed rather unnecessary. In fact, Panera needs MORE SPACE and tables since they are so popular. So, what is their solution? Of course! Build a huge wall right in the middle of the restaurant so we can get rid of one of those silly TABLES and in the process make it extremely difficult for folks to look across the restaurant to see who is there. Is this a government run thing? Hmmm.
